DELHI, N.Y. (September 1, 2020) - Our coaches have been nothing short of extraordinary during this adverse time that all colleges are facing with regards to athletics. While hopes of a championship are far from view, the determination to still provide students a welcoming, active experience this year has not left our coaches' eyes. SUNY Delhi Athletics celebrates our coaches with a new feature where we'll learn about our talented coaches in three phases: before, during, and after SUNY Delhi.

One could argue that cross country and track & field head coach Robb Munro and his programs have had sustained success throughout their time in the NJCAA, USCAA, NAIA, and now NCAA Division III. Entering his ninth year at the helm, Munro's teams have combined for six national championships with close to 100 All-Americans. The Broncos were undaunted entering their new competition in the NCAA. Over the past two seasons his men's and women's cross country teams have swept their conference championships, while his men's and women's track & field teams swept the 2019 NAC outdoor championship, including topping the combined field that also featured members of the GNAC and the NECC. Munro's commitment to academic achievement for his students has matched that success, with numerous All-Academic recipients and students selected for SUNY and national recognition.

BEFORE... Growing up in this area, I was very familiar with SUNY Delhi before starting here as the coach. I attended the NJCAA Basketball tournament here as a kid and the same newspaper I followed in high school also covered SUNY Delhi. As a high school coach, I sent eight students on to attend and compete for SUNY Delhi because I knew of the athletic programs reputation and the value of the hands-on learning the college offered.

DURING... I've been very proud to make the transition with our program from the junior college level to now NCAA Division III. We closed out our NJCAA chapter with outdoor track & field national championships for the women in 2014 and our men in 2015. In just our second year as a four-year program, our men's cross country captured the first of four straight USCAA national championships, and in our third year we had our first track & field NAIA All-American. Upon entering the NCAA era, our teams have combined for nine conference titles. But I am more proud of how our students have made similar commitments and accomplishments in their fields of study. We have had four selections for the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence (an honor that is given to two SUNY Delhi students annually), one student voted to back-to-back CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, and two earning USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year.

AFTER...  I hope to see SUNY Delhi's first NCAA Division III All-Americans, National Champions and team qualifiers for NCAA's in cross country and track & field before the end of my time here at SUNY Delhi. Having been here long enough and being blessed enough to have athletes earn All-American at the NJCAA level, the NAIA level and the USCAA level, it seems to be the next step in the programs' development.
