Former Broncos XC/T&F Coaches Named to New College Coaching Positions

DELHI, N.Y. (November 23, 2020) – A pair of former SUNY Delhi cross country/track & field coaches have recently been announced to new college coaching positions. Broncos Hall of Fame alumnus and previous Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Justin Wood '04 was named the Men's Cross Country Head Coach at Dartmouth College. Delhi's Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Lucy Ford has joined the cross country/track & field coaching staff at Brandeis University.

(STORY) DARTMOUTH: Justin Wood Named Head Coach of Men's Cross Country

"Wood comes to Hanover to lead the men's cross country team as well as the men's distance runners as an assistant coach in both indoor and outdoor track. He has spent the last two years at the University of La Verne in California, heading up both the men's and women's cross country programs in addition to his role with the track and field teams."

Wood was a two-year star runner at SUNY Delhi from 2002 to 2004, helping the cross country team to a NJCAA national championship as a freshman and the track & field squad to a NJCAA national crown as a sophomore. After moving on to Seton Hall and Southern Connecticut State, Wood returned to become SUNY Delhi's cross country and track & field coach from 2008-12. The Broncos won two men's cross country national titles under Wood. He was inducted into the SUNY Delhi Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.

From Justin Wood:

"From Delhi to Dartmouth is quite a jump for a kid that grew up in Walton, NY and went to SUNY Delhi as a first generation college student. The reality is that I needed SUNY Delhi to help me figure out how to be a student-athlete. I needed SUNY Delhi again to figure out how to be a college coach. There is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be where I am today without my time there. I said that when I left I would always bleed green... and that statement has truly come full circle for me."

(STORY) BRANDEIS: Lucy Ford added to track and cross country coaching staff

"Brandeis University has added Lucy Ford as a new assistant coach for the men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field and cross country teams. Ford will primarily be responsible for coaching the Judges' sprinters and jumpers."

Ford spent two years on Head Coach Robb Munro's staff from 2018 to 2020, helping the Broncos to back-to-back sweeps of the men's and women's cross country NCAA conference championships (ACAA in 2018, NAC in 2019) and a sweep of the men's and women's outdoor track & field NAC championships in spring of 2019. She is a 2018 graduate of SUNY Oneonta, where she won two SUNYAC titles in the high jump and heptathlon. Ford spent this fall as a track & field intern at UAlbany.

From Lucy Ford:

"I'm beyond excited to join the Judges and look forward to working with them. They have a great coaching staff and talent on their team. I'm thankful for the opportunity and my time and the people at SUNY Delhi set me up to be successful. And while I'm currently a Brandeis Judge, a part of me will always be a Bronco! I hope that SUNY Delhi will reflect on what I did in the past two years to develop the cross country and track & field teams and the campus."

From Robb Munro:

"Lucy has done a fantastic job for our program and the athletes in her care over the past few years. This is a great opportunity for her to continue on her path in coaching and we are very excited for her. I am confident she will do great things for Brandeis and their athletes just as she did at Delhi!"
