Men's Lacrosse 2023 North Atlantic Conference Playoff Preview

Men’s Lacrosse wrapped up their regular season and will head to SUNY Poly for the first round of the North Atlantic Conference, Thursday night at 7:00 PM in Utica, NY. The Broncos clinched the third seed after going (7-8) in the regular season and (6-2) in conference play.

Their only two conference losses came against the top two seeds, Maine Maritime and SUNY Poly.

The men’s team had a solid overall year, averaging 10.87 goals and 7.13 assists per game. They had nine players reach double-digit goals, led by senior Brandon McGrath and freshman Sam Bieber’s team-leading 17 goals.

Freshman Jagger Beachak and senior Jack McClurg will also play big roles in the attack. Beachak has been on fire, putting up a hat-trick performance in his last three games. While McClurg was a huge part of the team's success this year, putting up 14 goals, nine assists, grabbing 30 ground balls and causing 17 turnovers.

The midfield was a bright spot for the Broncos all year, providing solid depth and backup in both the defense and attack. The midfield team was reinforced by a veteran upper-classman group of King White, Kyle Brogan, Anthony Durrant and Nico Rivera.

The Bronco defense had a huge year, leading the NAC Conference and ranking second in the NCAA Division III for caused turnovers. They averaged 15.7 forced turnovers and 38.7 ground balls per game.

Seniors Zachary Zeebach and Joseph Carr, Sean Dalton and junior Donovan Johnson-Moline formed the tough Delhi backline. Each defenseman ended the regular season in the top 10 in the conference for caused turnovers per game. They will be anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Samuel Steng who posted an even .500 save percentage with 133 saves on the year.

Freshman Anthony Ferrato held down the faceoff position for most of the season, leading the team with 74 ground balls as he won 58% of his 237 face-off battles.

Delhi faced SUNY Poly, their semifinal matchup, once this year. The Wildcat’s neutralized the Bronco attack and took home a 9-5 victory, which would prove to be the deciding factor in giving Poly the home-field advantage.

In the month of April, the green and gold went 4-2 with three of their last four games ending with a win.

The semifinal game will be live-streamed and the link can be found on our athletic website.

The two first-round winners will advance to the NAC championship game on Sunday, May 7, at Maine Maritime’s Ritchie Field at 1:00 p.m.
