Quezada Becomes Delhi's First AMCC Individual Finalist to Cap Championships, Season

WEBSTER, N.Y. (February 22, 2020) – Kaitlyn Quezada (Peekskill, NY / Peekskill) and Julia Witt (Webster, NY / Webster) each wrapped up a memorable AMCC/E8 Championships on Saturday with top individual finishes. The freshman Quezada became SUNY Delhi's first AMCC individual finalist, qualifying for the 100-yard freestyle after school record-breaking 57.35 preliminary time giving her the eighth and final spot. She went on to place eighth for the podium finish at 57.51. Witt capped her Broncos career breaking her own school record in the 1650-yard freestyle at 20:19.87. She set her previous standard of 21:05.91 at last year's AMCC Championships.

Alexandria Caceres recorded a personal-best 2:56.97 during the 200-yard breaststroke preliminaries. She went on to post a time of 2:58.88 in the finals. The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Brett Jillson, Taylor Filipowski, Jeremiah Brathwaite, and James Brunt ended the men's season with a time of 4:06.54. The women's counterpart team of Witt, Caceres, Quezada, and Jazmin Salas wrapped up the Broncos' 2019-20 campaign finishing with a mark of 4:38.66.

Saturday's preliminary session featured James Brunt posting a personal-best time of 58.73 in the 100-yard freestyle, securing his first sub-minute time in his final career meet at Delhi. Jillson, Tanner Ashton, and Jeremiah Brathwaite competed in the same race, locking in respective times of 1:00.16, 1:04.08, and 1:06.24. Jonathon Brathwaite took on the 200-yard breastroke preliminary, clocking in at 3:09.90. 

The men and women both finished fifth in the AMCC, with the men earning 119 points and the women tallying 136 points. Quezada set three new individual records, including breaking one of her own. Her preliminary time in the 100-yard free Saturday broke the previous record of 57.59 set by Kiyomi Shibuya in 2011. The freshman from Peekskill, NY opened the AMCC's Wednesday with a new school record of 25.79 in the 50-yard free, then beat out her own school standard in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday at 1:14.63.

The four-day combined conference competition took place at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, N.Y. This marked the first combined conference meet between the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) and the Empire 8.
