Men’s Lacrosse tops NAC opponent Husson 7-2 in defensive battle

Bangor, ME - Men's lacrosse took on North Atlantic Conference opponents Husson for the second leg of a road trip to Maine, defeating them 7-2. Delhi split the two-game road trip and now are (3-1) in NAC conference games with five conference games remaining.

The Broncos (4-6, 3-1) held Husson to just two goals, their lowest opponent goal total all season as senior Logan Bauer poured in a hat-trick on the other side.

How it Happened:

The first half kicked off slowly with both teams' midfield and defenses controlling the game. It would be until just under six minutes until the green and gold found the back of the net as their first eight shots were off target. Senior Jack McClurg would cap off a terrific transition play by defender Zachary Seebach to open up the scoring.

The Delhi defense was superb through the first 15 minutes, causing six turnovers while not allowing a single shot on goal. Everyone was getting in on the action as five different Broncos caused a turnover led by junior Donavon Johnson Moline's two. He has been a very reliable piece of this defensive unit all season, ranking fourth overall in the NAC with 2.11 caused turnovers a game.

Freshman Sam Beiber and senior Logan Bauer added on for the Broncos with two late goals in the second quarter as they led 3-1 at the half. That would be Beiber's 14th goal of the season as he currently leads the team.

The second half was another defensive stalemate, again only broken by a great team goal by Delhi. Chris Lazazzaro finished off a close-range shot after a nice play set up by Bauer and McClurg around five minutes in.

Bauer would then score the next two goals of the game for his first hat-trick of the season, firing in a blind mid-range shot on an assist from senior King White in the third and a quick volley assisted by senior Brandon McGrath in the fourth. Finally, White wrapped up the Bronco stampede with a solo goal with under 10 minutes remaining to stretch the lead to 7-2.

Despite the low-scoring affair, Delhi had control throughout most of the games, leading in most categories. They outshot Husson 46 to 25, caused 20 turnovers compared to their nine and picked up 58 ground balls to their 40. The team shared the ball well, ending the day with five different scorers and five different players with an assist.

On the defensive side, everyone did their job and more. Senior Seebach had an outstanding day, leading the team with his season-high seven ground balls while tying his season-high four caused turnovers. His counterpart, senior Joseph Carr also had quite the performance with five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Samuel Steng had one of his best performances of the season, saving 11 shots for a .846 save percentage.
