Delhi women's volleyball wraps up season in first round of NAC playoffs

Quincy, MA – Delhi Women's Volleyball ended the 2023 season with a three-set defeat to top-seed Eastern Nazarene in the first round of the North Atlantic Conference playoffs. 

THE BASICS

Score: SUNY Delhi Broncos 0 | Eastern Nazarene Lions 3 (20-25, 16-25, 22-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Broncos had a strong start, taking an 11-8 lead in the first set with six kills, prompting a timeout from Nazarene. Both teams had scoring runs, with Delhi responding to a five-point slide by the Lions with a streak of four, tying the set at 18-18. However, Eastern Nazarene eventually secured the set with a 7-2 run.  

  • Delhi was led by Chloe Elsenbeck and Sage Renneisen, who combined for nine kills in the first frame. 

  • In the second set, Delhi found themselves trailing 11-20, but they managed to win five of the next six points, narrowing the gap. Unfortunately, Nazarene closed the set by winning the last four points. 

  • The third set was closely contested early, with the score tied at 7-7 and later at 14-14. The Lions then took control, securing 10 of the next 12 points to lead 24-16, looking to seal the match. However, Chloe Elsenbeck, rallied the green and gold by winning seven consecutive points, including three service aces, bringing Delhi within two points. Nonetheless, Nazarene sealed the victory in the end winning the next point.  

  • Sage Renneisen led the team with 11 kills and a .240 hitting percentage, while Chloe Elsenbeck contributed nine kills and five service aces. Senior Gianna Militi led the team with 16 digs, and junior Jaiden Venute recorded 21 assists.
