Jaiden Venute joins the 1,000-assist club in Broncos home loss to Utica

Delhi, NY – Women's Volleyball hosted Utica late Tuesday night for their second matchup of the season and was defeated in three sets. With two conference matches left, the Broncos sit fourth in the NAC West Division. 

THE BASICS 

Score: SUNY Delhi Broncos 0 | Utica Pioneers 3 (18-25, 22-25, 25-27) 

Records: SUNY Delhi (6-14, 4-4) | Utica University (13-10, 3-3) 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 

  • Despite outhitting the Pioneers in the first set, 9-6, the Broncos fell 25-18. Freshman Finley Benn (Cleveland, OH) led the way with three kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .429. 

  • In the second set, seven different hitters recorded a kill as Delhi fell once again. 

  • After only one assist in the second set, junior Jaiden Venute (Flushing, NY) joined five SUNY Delhi alumni with 1,000 career assists. 

  • The third set was a battle, with the two teams locked in at 15-15 before the Broncos went on a 9-3 run to lead 24-18. However, the Pioneers clawed back and took the final set 27-25. 

  • Chloe Elsenbeck (New Hartford, NY) finished with a team-high nine kills and a solid hitting percentage of .308. Freshmen Brooke Schoppmeyer (Oakdale, NY) and Benn each added eight kills, while Venute finished with 33 assists. 

  • Freshman Madelyn Diep (Baldwinsville, NY) had a great defensive game, with 23 service receptions and a perfect 1.000 percentage, along with 22 digs.  

UP NEXT FOR THE BRONCOS  

Delhi Women's Volleyball will host their final two matches of the regular season on Sunday, October 29th, as they take on NAC opponents Eastern Nazarene and SUNY Poly. Before the second match, the team will honor seniors Gianna Militi, Sage Renneisen, and Stephanie Burke in their final home regular-season match.
