Delhi drops NAC matchup to Cobleskill in five set battle

Cobleskill, NY – Delhi Women's Volleyball traveled to Cobleskill for their first North Atlantic Conference matchup of the season and were defeated in a tough five-set battle. 

THE BASICS 

Results: SUNY Delhi Broncos 2 | SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers 3  (25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 19-25, 13-15) 

Records: SUNY Delhi (2-10, 0-1) | SUNY Cobleskill (4-8, 1-0) 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW  

  • The veteran duo of Chloe Elsenbeck (New Hartford, NY) and Stephanie Burke (West Winfield, NY) combined for seven kills in the first set as the Broncos took an 11-5 lead and never relinquished it, winning 25-17. Both teams ended with 11 kills total, but Delhi's .212% hitting percentage would overcome Cobleskill's .132%.  

  • The second set was much closer, with 14 tie scores throughout the frame. Despite the green and gold team's match-high 16 kills from seven different attackers, the home team was able to secure the set with two kills at the end, winning 23-25. Sophomore setter, Laurel Poston (Moncks Corner, SC) recorded 12 assists after collecting 11 in the first set, while Burke was impacting both sides with five kills, 10 service receptions and seven digs.   

  • Delhi would regroup and end up taking the third set 25-19, forcing the Tigers to make 16 errors while hitting -.062%.   

  • Cobleskill would get out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth, and would never let the Broncos back in, eventually winning it 25-19.  

  • In the fifth set, Delhi secured an early lead, extending it to 13-7 with five kills and a couple of Cobleskill attacking errors. The home team then came storming back taking the set 15-13.  

  • The Broncos had two finish with double-digit kills as Burke and Elsenbeck finished with 12 and 11. The team ended with 46 total kills, a season-high, slightly edging out Cobleskill's 45.  

  • Burke had one of her best performances this season, recording four service aces, 27 receptions and 24 digs. While Poston would finish with her career-high and the team's season-high 37 assists.
