Delhi splits home tri-match with SUNY Poly and Morrisville

Delhi, NY – Women's volleyball hosted a North Atlantic Conference tri-match on Sunday with SUNY Poly and SUNY Morrisville. The Broncos defeated Poly in three straight sets in game one before being defeated by the Mustangs in a tough four-set battle.  

THE BASICS

Game One 

Results: SUNY Delhi Broncos 3 | SUNY Poly Wildcats 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18) 

Records: SUNY Delhi (3-10, 1-1) | SUNY Poly (2-14, 0-2) 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW  

  • Delhi would take down Poly in their first match of the day, outhitting them 28 to 10 in kills in three sets.  

  • In the first frame, they got off to a slow start, finding themselves down 1-4 before going on a 9-2 run and eventually closing it out 25-15. The Broncos served well, hitting five service aces with a .833 service percentage. 

  • The second set was all green and gold as they had seven players record a kill and never let the lead slip, winning it 25-16.  

  • They would then take care of business in a tight third set, pulling away with the match after it was tied at 13-13. The Broncos finished with nine different players recording a kill and 16 service aces.  

  • Senior Stephanie Burke (West Winfield, NY) had the match-high six kills, while junior Jaiden Venute (Flushing, NY) led the way with five service aces and an impressive .929 serve percentage. 

Game Two 

Results: SUNY Delhi Broncos 1 | SUNY Morrisville Mustangs 3 (14-25, 15-25, 25-22, 23-25) 

Records: SUNY Delhi (3-11, 1-2) | SUNY Morrisville (10-11, 2-2) 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW  

  • In the second match of the day against Morrisville, the Broncos got off to a tough start and found themselves down two sets.  

  • They regained their momentum in the third set, and after three lead changes the two teams were locked in at 16-16. Morrisville would then grab a point, going up 17-16 before a key Delhi timeout. Coming out of the break they would outscore the Mustangs 9-5 the rest of the way, including three huge late service aces from sophomore Laurel Poston (Moncks Corner, SC) and senior Chloe Elsenbeck (New Hartford, NY).  

  • The fourth set was just as close with five lead changes, but Morrisville would barely edge out the Broncos 25-23.  

  • Senior Sage Renneisen (Blue Point, NY) had an excellent second match on the attack, putting up the most kills this year for Delhi with 13. Burke also had a solid second match, recording eight kills, 17 serves, 31 service receptions, and 12 assists.
