Delhi splits Tri-Match with Canton and Morrisville on the road

Canton, NY – Delhi Women's Volleyball traveled to SUNY Canton for an important conference tri-match with the Roo's and SUNY Morrisville. The Broncos would split their two matches, defeating Canton in four sets and then falling to Morrisville in three. They currently sit in fourth in the North Atlantic Conference West Division.  

THE BASICS 

Game One 

Score: SUNY Delhi Broncos 3 | SUNY Canton Kangaroos 0  (25-24, 25-19, 10-25, 25-19) 

Records: SUNY Delhi (4-12,2-2) | SUNY Canton (4-15,1-3) 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW  

  • In the opening frame of match one, the Broncos took an early 15-6 lead, with freshman Finley Benn (Cleveland, OH) contributing six kills. They later extended their lead to 23-13 before facing a late set comeback from Canton. Benn finished the set with a career-high eight kills and an impressive .727 hitting percentage. 

  • The second set was a back-and-forth battle, with the score tied at 14-14 before Delhi secured five consecutive points, closing out the set on a 12-5 run.  

  • Canton rallied and took the third set. However, the Broncos quickly regrouped and established an early lead in the fourth set, which they never let up to close out the match.

  • Benn led the team with eight kills, while seniors Stephanie Burke (West Winfield, NY) and Katelyn Babcock (Monticello, NY) contributed seven kills each. Laurel Poston (Monks Corner, SC) finished with 27 assists and two service aces.

Game Two 

Score: SUNY Delhi Broncos 0 | SUNY Morrisville Mustangs 3 (17-25, 21-25, 16-25) 

Records: SUNY Delhi (4-13, 2-3) | SUNY Morrisville (12-11, 3-2) 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 

After a defeat in the first set of match two, the Broncos recorded 15 kills in the second set with a solid .333 attacking percentage. Senior Sage Renneisen (Blue Point, NY) led the team with six kills, but they ultimately would fall short in that set as well.  

In set three, five Broncos contributed with kills as they held the lead early on. However, the Mustangs took control at 17-16 and did not give up another point. 

Renneisen ended the match with 10 kills and 10 receptions, while Burke added seven kills, two service aces, and 10 digs.
