Three Broncos grab conference awards after week one

After week one in the 2023 fall season, three Broncos have been selected for North Atlantic Conference weekly honors. Men's golfers Thomas Christoffersen and John Souva played crucial roles in the men's golf team's success, winning three invites in three days over the weekend. Meanwhile, men's soccer senior captain and goalkeeper Jon Walch led his team to a near-perfect clean sheet in their first match.

Men's Golfer of the Week

Senior Thomas Christoffersen started his 2023 campaign by leading the men's golf team to three wins in three matches over the weekend. In the first action of the season, during a dual invite against The Apprentice School, he secured a first-place finish with a score of 68 (-4), four strokes lower than his score in the 2022 Spring Bronco Invitational. He followed that up with another outstanding performance on Saturday at the Delhi Bronco Invite, shooting the lowest score on the scoring team with a 72 (+0). He capped it all off by leading the team to victory at the Cobleskill Fall Invite and securing the individual title with a score of 68.

Men's Rookie of the Week

John Souva, SUNY Delhi
First Year | Nanuet, New York

Freshman John Souva had an excellent debut weekend with the men's golf team as they won three matches in three days. In his first-ever college match, during a dual invite against The Apprentice School, he carded the second-lowest score of the day with a 71 (-1). He followed that up with an even better performance the next day at the Delhi Bronco Invite, having the best individual day, outscoring the field of 41 golfers by three strokes with a scorecard of 69 (-3). He wrapped up his weekend by helping the team secure another win at the Cobleskill Fall Invite with a solid 81.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Captain Jon Walch led the Broncos' backline to a near-perfect first game, shutting out the Maritime offense. They dominated the entire 90 minutes, allowing only four total shots, none of which threatened the goal.
