Men Place 12th and Women 14th at NCAA Niagara Regional Championship

Rochester, NY - The Delhi Cross Country teams traveled to compete in the NCAA Regionals, finishing in 12th and 14th. The Broncos finish their excellent 2022 season with another solid showing from both teams, including a new school record.

The men's team ended up placing 12th overall out of 22 teams. Senior Seth Bywater was the first Bronco to cross the finish line, placing 34th out of 172 runners. Bywater ended up making up four total places after the first 2k to end up with a time of 26:37, good enough to receive NCAA All-Region honors. T Sophomore Aidan Cutting was second with a great race, placing 49th with a time of 27:00.3. He finished right ahead of John Amenta who came in 52nd overall. The Broncos were then rounded out by Nathan Goodwin in 82nd and Sam Lees in 99th.

The women's cross-country team placed 14th out of 24 total teams, led by freshman Alexa Walcott who broke the Broncos school record for the 6K. She came in 18th overall out of 167 total runners with a time of 23:19.6, 33 seconds faster than her race-winning time at the NAC Championships. That marks a new school record, breaking Delhi alumni Khiere Ashley's 6K time of 23:24 in 2015. She also placed high enough to be awarded NCAA All-Region honors. Kristina Messler was second for the team, coming in 78th overall with a time of 25:30. Then it was Kailyn Oreglio placing 82, Mary Lyons in 95th and Marissa Lombardi in 114.

"I'm really proud of both teams, they fought hard today and put a positive end to the season. I'm excited to see what's next, said coach Sydney Steger, "Alexa really showed up today and proved she could compete with the top girls in the region. As a freshman that is incredible."

The Broncos have wrapped up their 2022 season with numerous positives throughout the season. Alexa Walcott and John Amenta won NAC Runner of the Year while breaking the course record in Delhi's home course. With her record-breaking run today Walcott had one of the best seasons in Broncos history, and she did it as a freshman. The men's team won the NAC Championships with the women just one point away from winning it themselves. Then head coach Zach Brown won men's Cross-Country Coach of the Year. Delhi runners will now look toward the track and field season starting in December before getting back to cross country in 2023.
