Men's Cross Country Wins NAC Championship with Women placing Second by One Point

Canton, NY - The Men and Women Cross Country traveled to SUNY Canton for the NAC Championships early Saturday morning. The Men's team took first place for the first time since 2019 as their two top runners placed first and second. While the Delhi Women took second place just one point from the leaders.

The Women's team had an incredible finish to their 2022 season, placing second overall as a team just one point behind the first-place team. They had three different runners place within the top 10 out of 49 runners.

The Lady Broncos were led by freshman Alexa Wolcott who won the race as an individual with a time of 23:52, 12 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. She capped off a stellar season with another great outing, securing NAC Runner and Rookie of the Year.

Sophomores Kristina Messler and Kailyn Oreglio were the next two Broncos to score, placing fourth and fifth overall after excellent individual outputs. All three of them would place high enough to grab First Team All-North Atlantic Conference honors after their great results. While Mary Lyons and Marissa Lombardi brought up the scoring, placing 11th and 17th out of a field of 49. Lyon's 11th place also gave her Second Team All-North Atlantic Conference honors.

"The women's team raced amazingly. Each one of their efforts made the team score possible to be as close as it was today. They have so much to be proud of," said head coach Zach Brown, "It was really cool to see them all come together as a team and support each other this weekend."

The Men also had an incredible day, taking home the NAC Championship title by 24 points. All five of their scorers finished in the top 15 out of 74 total runners. John Amenta led the Broncos with a great outing, winning the race with a time of 26:19. With the individual win in the championships, he would secure the NAC Runner of the Year award. He was then followed by another Bronco in second place overall as Seth Bywater came in with a time of 26:30.

The Bronco's third runner came across the finish line seventh overall for Delhi's third runner in the top 10. Amenta, Bywater and Cutting's places would be enough to get First Team All-North Atlantic Conference honors. Then it was two freshmen, Nathan Goodwin and Derek Leiter placing back-to-back in the 13 and 14th spots to round out the win. They would be awarded Second Team All-North Atlantic Conference honors.

"I'm extremely proud of both teams today. The men raced so well as a team. John and Seth taking 1-2 and our freshman Nathan and Derek finishing 13th 14th as Second Team All-Conference honors and as our 4th and 5th runners, solidified the win in a big way," said Brown, "Big congrats to the guys, they earned it."
