Men and Women's Cross Country 2022 NAC Championship Preview

Men and Women's Cross Country 2022 NAC Championship Preview

The Broncos head into the NAC Championships on Saturday, October 29th after a solid 2022 season. The Delhi Men's team kicks off the action at 11 a.m. at SUNY Canton running their 8k, while the women follow with their 6k race at noon. Both courses are made of one single loop that has a combination of grass, wooded trails and a section of gravel road.

The Broncos had a solid regular season with some Broncos breaking personal records and others winning entire races. Through both teams, the Green and Gold picked up four individual race wins including two team victories. The Broncos had numerous great races throughout the season including at the Broncos Classic when both teams took the top spot.

Standouts from the women's team include freshman Alexa Walcott who had one of the best years by a first year in Bronco's history. She led the women’s team all year as she was a consistent bright spot. Wolcott's performances landed her nine total weekly NAC awards with four Runner of the Week and five Rookie of the Week awards. She won a few races including an outstanding showing at the Broncos Classic, breaking the course record set in 2013. The Broncos had five runners who participated in the 2021 NAC championship, including top-10 finishers Marissa Lombardi (ninth, 24:18.6) and Mary Lyons who will look to repeat their success this year as well.

While on the men's side, junior John Amenta had a solid 2022 season. He led the way for the Green and Gold, winning a race and being honored with a NAC Runner of the Week award. He also broke the course record at the Broncos Classic which was set in 2017. Amenta finished his season on a high note, placing sixth out of a field of 117 runners in the last meet. Delhi returns six runners from its 2021 NAC Championship squad, led by second-place finisher Seth Bywater, John Amenta (sixth) and Aidan Cutting (seventh) were all top-10 finishers a year ago.

The Broncos will head to SUNY Canton for the NAC Championships on Friday to get an early feel for the course. They are looking to defend their 2021 Women's NAC Cross Country title and bring another one in for the men. In the pre-championship voting, the women collected four first-place votes to receive a second place while the men took the top spot with five first-place votes.
