Velasquez-Osario scores four goals to lead Broncos

Delhi, NY – Delhi Men's Soccer hosted SUNY Morrisville at Neil Riddell Field and secured a 4-1 victory, marking their first win in the NAC West and handing Morrisville their first loss in the conference.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW  

  • Roberto Velasquez-Osario scored a hat trick in a 20 minute span in the first half to give Delhi a 3-0 lead. 

  • His first goal came from a free kick, placing the ball 20 feet from the box into the top right corner. The second and third goals featured wonderful finishes, capping off excellent passes from his teammates.

  • After giving up a goal in the 61st minute to the Mustangs, Velasquez-Osario tallied his fourth goal of the game in the 69th minute. His final strike of the day originated from outside the box, where he skillfully placed it into the top corner, eluding the Mustangs' goalkeeper.

  • Roberto's four goals mark the highest by any Bronco this year, positioning him as one of the top goal scorers in the NAC with a total of 10 goals this season. 

  • This marks the first time a men's soccer player has scored four goals in the NCAA era for the Delhi men's program, and the first since Alhasane Sako accomplished it in September 2018.

  • Delhi had three of their four goals come from assists.

  • The Broncos will now sit in fourth place in the NAC West.

"A hard fought performance from a united group today.  It really felt like everyone contributed in some way after a very tough week of training. When you score four goals in any game, it is a memorable occasion and that certainly was the case with Roberto today. I am hopeful that this is the moment the group uses to propel themselces to another level in October."
