Men's Soccer remains unbeaten after 2-0 win over Marywood on Neil Riddell Field

Delhi, NY – Delhi Men's Soccer took down Marywood University at home in a tough battle 2-0. The Broncos now have three clean sheets through their first three games, a first for the program in the NCAA era.

THE BASICS

Score: SUNY Delhi 2 | Marywood 0

Records: SUNY Delhi (2-0-1) | Marywood (2-2)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • After a tightly contested first half in which neither team managed to gain an advantage, the only goal of the half came from Cristóbal Garzón (Santiago, Chile) just before halftime, marking his first-ever green and gold goal. He was assisted by junior Aidan McLaughlin (Bellmore, NY), who recorded his second career assist in the 44th minute.

  • Garzón's goal proved to be the match-winner as the Broncos' defense once again stifled the opposition.

  • Delhi added to their total in the 76th minute when Roberto Velasquez-Osorio (Monticello, NY) scored his second goal of the year.

  • Senior Delhi Keeper Jon Walch (Brewster, NY)  recorded his third clean sheet, matching last year's total in just a third of the matches played. The backline of sophomore Vaughn Bottex (West Babylon, NY), sophomore Matt Serrao (Franklin, NY), junior Erik Kleczkowski (Staten Island, NY), and sophomore John Walsh (East Islip, NY) has played superbly in front of the senior captain in goal this season.

COMMENTS FROM COACH REUTEMANN:

"A clean sheet and finishing the second half without conceding were crucial again today. Cristobal's goal gave us some much-needed life just before halftime, and Roberto was able to finish his chance with precision rather than power, which was different from some of our first-half opportunities. Justin Huallanca's midfield play created a tremendous amount of space, especially in the second half, with the ground he was covering. We are now in the thick of the season with three games in seven days, and continuing to learn from specific moments will be absolutely vital in the days ahead."

UP NEXT FOR THE BRONCOS

Men's soccer heads to play Clarks Summit next on September 11th for the first leg of a three-match road stretch.
