Jones, Muhammad Post Two Wins as Delhi Edged by SUNY Broome

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (September 9, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi women's tennis team hit the road for the first time this season to take on SUNY Broome. Trailing, 2-1, heading into singles, the Broncos rallied for three solid wins, but could get no closer as they were edged, 5-4, by the Hornets.

The one tandem of Victoria Jones and Safiyyah Muhammad defeated Broome's top team of Shyanne Daye and Madison Murphy by an 8-6 score. Jones notched her second win of the day in the top singles slot against Daye by 6-4 and 6-2 ledgers, while Muhammad battled Murphy to a tiebreaker victory in singles two. Each side took a 6-3 set victory, then Muhammad pulled through with an 11-9 victory in set three. Rani Samudrala edged Emily Whitaker at singles four, 7-5, in the first set, then dominated set two by a 6-1 score.
