8-0 Women's Soccer Retains Number-One Ranking in USCAA Coaches Poll

USCAA COACHES POLLS – WEEK 2

NORFOLK, Va. (October 4, 2018) – The second edition of the USCAA National Coaches Rankings were recently released, with the undefeated SUNY Delhi women's soccer team maintaining their number-one Division II national ranking with 246 points. The Broncos are currently 8-0 following their 3-1 victory over Green Mountain on Saturday in their sole match last week.

Junior forward Devin Baratto scored the latter two of Delhi's goals on Saturday that ultimately decided the victory over the Eagles. Sam Acuna gave the Broncos the early 1-0 lead with her first career goal in the 12th minute, followed by scores from Baratto in the 36th and 74th minute. The Delhi defense allowed just four shots with three on goal, with goalie Rachael Scoones logging a pair of saves.

Senior Katie Herba and freshman Kelsey Innes lead Delhi with eight goals, with Herba also leading the team with 20 points and four assists. The defense has posted four shutouts and has allowed just five goals. Scoones is 4-0 on the year in net, logging two shutouts and allowing four scores, while fellow freshman goalie Jessica Shultis is 4-0 and allowing one goal.

Cincinnati Clermont is second in the poll with 240 votes, while Southern Maine is third with 235 votes, NHTI fourth with 234 votes, and Central Penn fifth with 230 votes.

Delhi's next two matches are against fellow ranked teams in this week's USCAA Division II poll. The Broncos play Thursday night at Albany College of Pharmacy at 5:00 p.m., with the Panthers ranked sixth with 225 votes. Delhi is due to face SUNY ESF on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., with the Mighty Oaks slotted eighth with 211 votes.

In addition, the Broncos have matches lined up later this season with ranked opponents in the Division I poll. That includes at seventh-ranked Valley Forge on Oct. 13 and a home match against fourth-ranked Bryant & Stratton Syracuse on Oct. 20.
