DELHI, NY. (March 28, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi softball team has their 2019 schedule finalized and are ready to charge into their first season under new head coach Meagan Hillard. Led by captains Molly Greene and Mackenzie Sparacino, the Broncos are ready to get the new season started, with their sights set on the ACAA Tournament, slated for May 4-5 at Alfred State.

The Broncos pack plenty of enthusiasm as they begin a new chapter competing in their first official season in NCAA Division III. After a productive fall season, Delhi began practice in February, preparing over the course of 43 days for opening day. Weather prevented that day from being a week sooner, as a home game slated for Mar. 23 and a road contest Mar. 24 were postponed because of snow. Despite the delay, Delhi is at long last ready to take the diamond this weekend, with games set at Penn State Brandywine Friday and at John Jay Saturday. Coach Hillard's team has adopted the slogan "Why Not?" to signify a new beginning for the program entering NCAA.

"Our goal this year is to be competitive and get the program moving in the right direction again," related Hillard. "We've put in almost two months of practice and I'm excited for us to get outside and start playing. We have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball this year and I believe that we will make an impact this season."

"I'm really excited for all of the new things we have been doing this year," said Greene. "The team has great energy and I think it's safe to say we're all excited to get outside and play."

The Broncos open their season this Friday with a road matchup at Penn State Brandywine, then head to Fordham University for a date with John Jay on Saturday. The women are back in action Monday, meeting with Cazenovia at Carrier Park in Syracuse, N.Y.

Delhi begins its home season hosting SUNY Cobleskill on April 3. They will then head out for four consecutive road dates, starting at Morrisville State on April 4, Pine Manor April 6, then a two-day series over spring break at SUNY Canton April 9 and 10. Delhi is back home hosting Gallaudet on April 12, then back on the road at Valley Forge on April 13, SUNY Poly April 16 and Penn State Hazleton on April 17. The Broncos will return home on April 20 for a mid-day meeting versus Penn St.-Scranton, followed by a weekend home contest versus Cazenovia on April 23. The Broncos finish out the regular season with a trip to Houghton on April 26 and finally a two-day series at Alfred for April 27 and 28.
