Anderson, Kelly Give Broncos Sweep of NAC Weekly Awards

WATERVILLE, ME. (March 3, 2020) – In the opening week of the 2020 men's lacrosse season, SUNY Delhi swept the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekly awards. Freshman attacker Mike Kelly (Floral Park, NY / Floral Park Memorial) was awarded both Player and Rookie of the Week, while sophomore goalie Travis Anderson (Putnam Valley, NY / Putnam Valley) was awarded Defensive Player of the Week.

The Broncos played three games down in Virginia last week to begin their season. They started off strong with a 20-3 win Monday over Randolph, then came up short Wednesday at Randolph Macon by an 18-6 score and Virginia Wesleyan Friday by a 22-3 decision.

Kelly posted 17 points on eight goals and nine assists during the week, including a record 13 points on seven goals and six assists in the opener against Randolph. Two days later, Kelly posted a goal and three assists against Randolph-Macon, then finished the three-game road trip against the Marlins scooping up nine groundballs and caused one turnover. The freshman leads the NAC in all scoring categories so far this season.

Anderson had 10 saves on 15 shots faced during the Broncos win at Randolph and stopped 16 shots from Randolph-Macon two days later. Anderson recorded 26 saves at Virginia Wesleyan, bringing his weekly and season total to a NAC-leading 52 saves, along with a 57.8 save percentage.

Anderson, Kelly, and the Broncos have games this week at Wells on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., followed by a road match at SUNY Brockport Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
