Broncos Overcome Slow Start to Dominate in 21-5 win at Wells

AURORA, N.Y. (March 4, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team is now a perfect 1-for-1 in their home state with a 21-5 win at Wells on Wednesday. The Broncos returned to play following a three-game road trip in Virginia to start the season by overcoming an early 2-0 deficit for the sizable win. Head coach Sam Miller's team improved to 2-2, with a contest at SUNY Brockport up ahead on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Freshmen Aidan Costello provided much of the Broncos' scoring with six goals and one assist. Facing an early 2-0 deficit, Coach Miller summoned the team for a timeout, after which sophomore Brandon McGrath got one back to get Delhi on the board. Costello tied the game moments later, then after an Express goal put the home team back ahead, Logan Bauer connected to tie things up at 3-3, followed by Costello putting the Broncos ahead with his second goal of the day to give Delhi the lead for good. The Broncos outscored the Express, 17-2, the rest of the way. They led, 10-4, at halftime, then shutout Wells, 7-0, in the third period and held them to one in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

McGrath finished with four goals and six assists, as freshman Mike Kelly notched four goals. Jack McClurg had two goals with two assists, while Mark Frascello had one goal and a pair of assists. Jacob Nygard and Brandon Katz each accounted for one goal.

Following their Saturday meeting with the Golden Eagles, the Broncos open up their NAC season traveling to face Maine Maritime next Saturday, Mar. 14. At 12:00 p.m. Delhi then travels to take on SUNY New Paltz Thursday, Mar. 19 at 4:00 p.m. before opening their home slate versus NAC-foe Husson Saturday, Mar. 21 at 1:00 p.m. at SUNY Oneonta.
