DELHI, N.Y. (October 5, 2021) - The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team finished their third straight game decided by one goal Tuesday at home with Sage. This time, however, the Broncos were on the short end of a 1-0 score, with the Gators' goal coming with under nine minutes to play. The non-conference meeting offered Delhi its first defeat at home and a 6-4 overall record.

The day was not without its fireworks, as both the Broncos and Gators exchanged shots all afternoon to put the goalies to work. Delhi led 23-20 in shots and 16-13 in shots on goal, as Rachael Scoones finished with 12 saves, while Sage's Kierstin Lynch garnered 16 saves. Delhi had its share of close chances, with a few opening shots from Alexa DuBois hitting the crossbar and a 15-yarder sailing high of the goal. Additionally, a shot from Alivia Cordero from the right was deflected just enough by Lynch to redirect and have it hit off the left post. Then in the second half, a series of rebound shots appeared to produce a score from Kelsey Innes, but the play was called dead with the goalkeeper already establishing possession on the ground. Sage got its break when Natalie Ricci broke through the Broncos back line, evading Scoones at the left of the box and firing a shot towards a retreating Scoones that bounced off her hand and into the left of the goal with 8:52 to play.

Delhi looks to rebound this weekend heading to Maine for NAC play against Maine Maritime Saturday at 12 noon and Thomas Sunday at 12 noon. The Broncos are 4-0 in conference play with four more league games and one other non-conference game, sitting two games ahead in first place in the NAC West. The Broncos' remaining slate after this weekend includes SUNY Poly Oct. 16, non-conference Bard Oct. 19, and home with SUNY Canton Oct. 23.
