CANTON, N.Y. (April 3, 2021) – A sudden 3-0 SUNY Canton lead and a 10-2 halftime score in favor of the Roos proved too much for the SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team to overcome on the road in NAC West action Saturday, as the Broncos suffered their second straight defeat by a 14-8 score. Though Delhi outshot Canton, 45-40, they were pitted against a 21-save performance by Canton goalie Justin Laduke, scoring just one goal in both the first and second quarters, but outscored the Roos 6-4 in the second half. Delhi stands at 1-3 (1-2 NAC West) on the season, while Canton moves to 1-1 (1-1 NAC West).

The Roos' scoring was led by four goals and two assists from Hunter Olsen and three goals and one assist each from Jacob Facey and Kyle Fingar. Each of them played a part in the first-half scoring. Canton netted two goals within the first minute and 27 seconds from Zack LaFave and Brandon Schmidt, then Olsen picked up his first goal with 8:52 to go in the first to give the Roos a 3-0 lead. Jack McClurg got Delhi on the board with 6:30 left in the quarter on an assist from Brandon McGrath to cut things to 3-1, only for Canton to capture four straight to end the quarter and two straight to start the second for a 9-1 lead. Greg Junge broke the Broncos' silence with an unassisted score with 7:07 left in the half, then Facey netted his second goal of the day nearly three minutes later as Canton took a 10-2 lead at intermission.

The Broncos opened the second half with two straight scores, coming from Aidan Costello and Raffaele Delellis. The Roos, however, made the most of two man-up chances for two of their three straight goals to end the quarter. The first was from Fingar, followed by an even score from LaFave, and another extra-man goal from Facey. Olsen got his fourth goal to start the fourth quarter, but the Broncos finished strong with four unanswered scores, the first three from Costello and the last from King White. The game was scoreless for the final 6:34.

Costello finished tied for a game-high four goals, with all of them coming in the second half. Brandon McGrath made up three assists. Goalie James Sullivan collected eight saves in the opening 44:22 of action before Dante Restaino took over for the fourth quarter and change, gathering two saves. The Broncos won 9-of-24 faceoffs, with Nick Dower winning six and Nick Scarpa winning three.

Delhi completed 16-of-21 clear attempts to Canton's 19-of-25. The Broncos were 0-for-3 on man-up chances, while the Roos came through on 2-of-4 opportunities. The green and gold caused more turnovers than Canton, 8-6, with two each from Sean Dalton and Anthony Durrant. Today marked the first time this season the Broncos surrendered double-digit goals.

Head coach Sam Miller's team is set to face SUNY Cobleskill next weekend in a NAC West rematch of their March 20 meeting, a 24-7 Broncos win.
