Women Close Out 2017 Beating Maine Machias for Tenth Win

DELHI, N.Y. (December 18, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team closed out 2017 reaching win number ten Monday afternoon, beating Maine Machias by a 70-52 score in Floyd L. Maines Arena. Delhi, now 10-4, led the entire game, with Samiaya Salley once again leading all scorers with 29 points, along with seven rebounds, for her 11th 20-point game of the year. The Broncos have now won four out of their last five.

Kiera Holland and Sam Acuna each had nine points and three rebounds, while Katie Herba finished with eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Camryn McDonald and Erica Cornmire each totaled six points, with McDonald recording seven rebounds and six steals.

The Broncos scored the first five points of the game and led, 24-10, after the first quarter and 42-25 at halftime. Salley had 19 of her points in the first half, making 8-of-13 from the floor. The sophomore finished 10-for-20 from the field, along with making 2-of-8 3-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws. Delhi built its lead up to as much as 23 points early in the fourth quarter at 64-41.

Both sides fared relatively similar from the floor, with the Broncos shooting 35.4 percent (28-for-79) and the Clippers 32.8 percent (20-for-61). Delhi made 5-of-21 3-pointers and 9-of-17 free throws, as UMM shot 3-for-16 and 9-for-12, respectively. The Broncos led, 42-28, in points in the paint and shutout the Clippers in fastbreak points, 22-0, and bench points, 12-0. Delhi also led, 29-8, in points off turnovers, forcing UMM into 29 turnovers.

Following a well-deserved break, the Broncos ring in 2018 on Sunday, January 7 when they travel to face Central Penn. Delhi's next home game will be against NHTI on Saturday, January 13 at 11:00 a.m.
