2023 Delhi Men's Tennis Season Preview

Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi men’s tennis team is set to start their 2023 spring season on Friday, March 10th under the direction of two-time head coach Zack Thomsen. The Broncos return from a terrific past season and will try to defend their North Atlantic Conference Title.

With the loss of key players from the last season, the team will look different this year. With two players returning from last year’s squad, Thomsen mentioned, “It’s going to be a lot of fun working with the team and some guys who might have thought to not be regulars will get to play a lot.”

Delhi went (9-6) overall and (5-1) in conference play last season. After defeating NAC opponents Thomas 6-3 in the conference championships last year the team lifted their first-ever title.

Ten new faces will join the two returning players to fill out the team. The two returning players are senior Dominick DeBonis and junior Ryan Fitzpatrick who played key roles in last year's team. Both players played a few matches in singles spots and were highly successful playing on doubles teams.

“Dom and Ryan will be at the top of our lineup, those guys will have a great opportunity to get better and to improve before we get more reinforcements coming in next year."

Part of the big incoming class of newcomers are standouts Moises Saintil and Benjamin Andersen. They have displayed promising potential and talent in both doubles and singles play through the pre-season. They will follow up behind Dom and Ryan in the singles lineup while teaming up on the doubles end.

"This year's schedule is pretty tough, everyone on the team, top to bottom, will need to be ready to play every week,” said Thomsen.

Delhi will start the season away from home with a non-conference match against Bard University on Friday. The Broncos are set to face three other non-conference opponents and five conference opponents throughout the season. Big matches include a double-header rematch of the 2022 NAC Championship, when Delhi hosts Thomas on March 18th. They will then wrap up their season with home NAC matches on April 15th and then on the 16th.
