DELHI, N.Y. (November 28, 2021) – The SUNY delhi men's basketball team celebrated their return from Thanksgiving for their home fans Sunday welcoming an undefeated Williams College squad. Despite a valiant effort from the Broncos, including a late comeback bid that featured a 17-0 run, the visiting Ephs remained undefeated at day's end in the form of a 74-67 victory.
Williams ran off a 14-3 run to start the contest, but couldn't appear to shake off Delhi as the green and gold crept to within seven points on a pair of occasions before the Ephs took a 46-37 lead at halftime. The visitors doubled down to start the second half, placing as much as a 23-point gap at 69-46 with just under nine minutes remaining. The Broncos again answered back, clamping down the Ephs for eight scoreless minutes as they dropped 17 straight points to narrow it down to 69-63 with 33 ticks to play. The minimal time remaining resorted Delhi to intentional fouls, where the visitors tacked in five from the charity stripe to escape with the win.
While the Broncos shot 20 more field goal attempts than the Ephs, Williams hit 21-of-47 (44.4 percent), including 9-of-19 on 3-pointers, to Delhi's 25-of-67 (37.3 percent) and 7-of-27, respectively. The Ephs came through on 23-of-30 free throws to the Broncos' 10-of-16. The scales remained relatively balanced on the stat lines, with Williams carrying a modest 39-34 lead on rebounds and Delhi forcing the Ephs into 20 turnovers for a 17-14 lead in points off turnovers. They broke even on points in the paint, 20-20, although Delhi flashed a 19-8 disparity in bench points, despite having just one more bench player enter the game than Williams.
Norman Wilson led the Broncos with 19 points and five assists, along with three steals to tie Lester McCarthy for the team best. McCarthy added eight points, as Mavenson Therneus delivered ten points and a team-high six rebounds. Isiah barnes connected for nine points, while Pablo Quinones came off the bench to post five points.
