Broncos wrap up regular season with a 1-0 win over SUNY ESF thanks to 89th minute match Winner

Delhi, NY – Women's soccer concluded their regular season with a rainy Saturday victory over SUNY ESF, thanks to Alya Vorisek's late match-winning goal in the 89th minute. The Broncos are now gearing up for the North Atlantic Conference Tournament, set to begin next weekend, where they expect to come in as the third or fourth seed in the West Division.

Records: SUNY Delhi (10-3-2, 5-1-2) | SUNY ESF (5-3-1, 1-0) 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 

  • In an even stalemate, the Broncos and the Oaks went into the half with just three shots apiece, and the score remained tied at 0-0. 

  • In the second half, freshman keeper Abigail Allen (Orange Park, FL) took over for Vanessa Sanchez (Jarupa Valley, CA) in the 70th minute, with both goalkeepers making three saves each. 

  • The Mighty Oaks outshot the Broncos in the second half, 10-4, but the match remained scoreless almost until the end. 

  • It was in the 89th minute when sophomore Ayla Vorisek (Delhi, NY) scored her first career goal in green and gold. She made her first goal special, launching a long shot that curved over the keeper, bouncing off the top post and into the net. 

  • Before the match, the Broncos honored five of their seniors in their final regular season home match: Reanen Goodspeed (Morris, NY), Alanna Ruchar (Delhi, NY), Casey Bugbee (Johnsonville, NY), Evelin Chacha (Tarrytown, NY), and Kayla Beers (East Meredith, NY). 

  • Goodspeed, starting her 68th game, surpassed her former teammate Kelsey Innes (2018-2022) to become the all-time leader in games started in SUNY Delhi Women's Soccer program history.
