Broncos Earn Four AARTFC Marks, Four Victories in Outdoor Debut at Goucher

GOUCHER, Md. (March 23, 2019) – Following three weeks of preparation after a noteworthy indoor season, the SUNY Delhi track and field team made their 2019 outdoor debut Saturday at the Goucher College Classic. The prep work paid off, as Delhi won four events, as well as four Broncos earning AARTFC qualifications.

Distance runners Kobie Lane and Abshir Yerow both picked up a win and a regional qualifier. Lane won the 5K with a mark of 15:11.13. And running through winds as high as 25 miles per hour, Yerow took first in the 10K with a lifetime-best 32:11.12, good for fifth all-time in the school record book, while teammate Nicholas Arnecke finished right behind him, also earning an AARTFC mark at 32:24.64. Jumper Glenn Butler Jr. earned the remaining AARTFC mark in the high jump, clearing 1.92m for second place. Butler also went on to win the long jump with a distance of 6.57m. Pole vaulter Matthew Scavetta won his event with a height of 4.05m.

Thrower Diana Echols had two top-four marks on the day. Her 11.25m hurl in the shot put not only placed her at second in the event, but marked a new lifetime best and put the junior third all-time in school history. Echols went on to capture fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.57m. Runner Katerina Salcedo placed second in the 800 meters, where her mark of 2:26.87 ranks her eighth all-time in the SUNY Delhi record books. She later teamed up with Jaylynn Sheppard, Ashley Magnifico and Madeeah Oranchak to take fourth in the 4x100 with a time of 52.74.

Freshman Humphrey Banful finished third in the 110-meter hurdles, making the final cut with a preliminary time of 16.14, then surpassing that mark with a finals time of 15.89, good for ninth all-time in Broncos history. Oranchak took third place in the 100 meters, posting a preliminary time of 13.17, then clocking in a 13.11 time in the finals. Sean Andrews placed second in the 200 meters, taking a time of 23.82, while Shamar Barker finished third with a run of 23.92. Derrick Kenan was a third-place finisher in the 800 meters at 2:05.76, and later paired with Michael Moran, Frank Martucci, Anthony Cuchel for sixth in the 4x400 at 3:45.72.

Head coach Robb Munro's team will next take on the Mount Saint Mary Invitational, set for Saturday, Mar. 30 at Marlboro High School.
