Salcedo Wins, Broncos Snag 13 Top-Five Marks at Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (December 9, 2018) – SUNY Delhi women's and men's track and field visited Utica College on Saturday for the Pioneer Winter Classic. Freshman women's runner Katerina Salcedo led the Broncos with a victory in the 800-meter run at 2:22.78, as Delhi combined for 13 top-five placements. That included four second-place finishes and three third-place marks. The women totaled 70 points for fourth place, while the men grabbed 32 points for seventh place.

Salcedo added to her strong day by grouping with Ashley Magnifico, Arielle Moheimani and Naomi Mullings to take second in the 4x400 with a time of 4:16.57, good for first in their section. Brittany Patterson was second in the 600 meters with a time of 1:44.20.

The men's distance runners earned the Broncos' remaining second-place marks. Kobie Lane completed the one-mile run at 4:32.26, finishing just .15 seconds off the pace. Abshir Yerow was runner-up in the 5K at 16:01.59. Michael Moran took third in the 600 meters, clocking in at 1:25.28, as did Humphrey Banful in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.76 and Matthew Scavetta in the pole vault at 4.35m. Sean Andrews was on hand for a pair of fourth-place finishes, starting with the 400 meters at 52.35. He went on to team with Moran, Alex Brown and Shamar Barker in the 4x400 at 3:31.11. Ian Luhmann placed fourth in the 200 meters at 23.76, while Lucas Reilly was fourth in the 3K at 9:10.34. Hashim Gambari tallied off Delhi's final top-five mark Saturday, placing fifth in the high jump at 1.78m.

Head coach Robb Munro's team will reconvene after winter break, with their first test in the new year being the Hamilton Invite on Friday, Jan. 18.
