Coach William Stephens III brings his coaching prowess to Delhi following a year as an assistant coach for SUNY Potsdam's Swimming and Diving Team. Drawing from his collegiate swimming background and coaching experience, he will focus on refining sprint events while bolstering the overall program.
During the past year, Coach Stephens guided two swimmers to the finals at the SUNYAC Championships, and one diver achieved an NCAA Division III national qualifying score. Before his time at Potsdam, he contributed to Northern TRIBS in Massena and Potsdam, working with diverse age groups from young children to high school athletes.
As a collegiate athlete, Stephens excelled as a top freestyler and butterflier for the Potsdam Bear's swim teams during his sophomore and junior years. His specialization encompassed the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 100 butterfly events. Selected as a captain in his junior year, his senior year unfortunately faced disruptions.
Coach Stephens holds a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and Criminal Justice, complemented by a minor in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) from SUNY Potsdam in 2021. He is currently pursuing his master's online at Oregon State University in Environmental Science and Wildlife Management. Originally from Medina, New York, his commitment to coaching and academic pursuits define his journey.
