DELHI, N.Y. (April 23, 2018) – The sun set today on the 2018 SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse season, but not before the team celebrated a beautiful Monday afternoon with a home game against Green Mountain. It had been a few years since the Broncos played at home on campus, but backed by a raucous home crowd, the team felt at home right away, taking down the Eagles by a 24-3 score. The win capped Delhi's season with a 4-10 record.
The day was also marked by Coach Sam Miller honoring the team's five seniors at halftime. Luke Anderson, Pearse Crowley, Stephen Harten, Jeremy Leary and Eric Morse were each recognized for their stellar playing careers at SUNY Delhi. Leary celebrated the occasion by posting a phenomenal five goals and five assists for the game, as did Anderson, who finished with three goals and two assists. Crowley also had a goal, while Harten gathered seven ground balls with three caused turnovers. Goalie Morse picked up the win, playing the first half in goal before giving way to underclassman Dante Restaino.
It was also a day for the underclassmen to shine, as John Rohan III and Malik Talbert each recorded four goals and one assist. Brian Conti had two goals and one assist, while Sam Famolare connected for a pair of scores. Brandon Katz and Brendan Scheeler each finished with one goal and two assists. Sean Tillman netted a goal, while Ross Cange and Luis De Lao each had one assist. Faceoff man Mitch Spaziani led the team with 14 faceoff wins, with Lorenzo Focarino adding three midfield wins of his own, as well as Famolare winning one.
"I'm kind of at a loss for words," said Coach Miller about Monday's game. "Everything about the day turned out great. We couldn't have asked for better weather the last few days so we could play on our grass field. The fans enjoyed themselves, and most importantly, our players had a blast. All but a few of them have never had the chance to actually play a game on our campus, so we are so grateful to our behind-the-scenes people for giving us a unique atmosphere to close out the year."
The Broncos outshot the Eagles by a whopping 60-9 margin, forced Green Mountain into 34 turnovers and gathered 61 ground balls. Delhi was a perfect 9-for-9 on clear attempts and seized on 2-of-7 man-up opportunities. The defense kept Green Mountain grounded the whole game, allowing Morse and Restaino to combine for just two saves on the day.
