Five Broncos Earn ACAA Season-Ending Honors; Fragale Player of the Year, Thomsen Coach of the Year

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (March 5, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team's ACAA Championship season was further rewarded as five Broncos earned All-ACAA selections. Senior point guard Jordan Fragale (Baldwinsville, NY / C.W. Baker) was chosen as the ACAA's Player of the Year in addition to First Team honors, while head coach Zack Thomsen was awarded the ACAA Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Sophomore guard/forward Mavenson Therneus (Spring Valley, NY / Spring Valley) was honored to the All-ACAA First Team.

Senior forward Payton Dean (Harpursville, NY / Harpursville) and sophomore guard Glenn Butler (White Plains, NY / White Plains) were named All-ACAA Honorable Mentions.

Coach Thomsen's squad just completed a record-setting weekend to capture their second straight ACAA title. As hosts of the tournament, the Broncos treated their home crowd by setting a single-game scoring record with 118 points in their 118-70 semifinals win over Valley Forge on Saturday. They then held Pine Manor to a record-low 42 points in the championship game Sunday for a 94-42 victory, marking their third win of the season over the Gators after a regular-season sweep. Senior guard Justin Daoud was named the ACAA Tournament MVP, while Fragale was named to the ACAA All-Tournament Team. The two wins also propelled Delhi to its first 20-win season under the fifth-year Coach Thomsen, and first overall since 2013-14. The Broncos have won their last ten games and 13 of their previous 14.

SUNY Delhi received even more good news on Tuesday when they were selected as the third seed for next week's USCAA Division I National Tournament at Penn State Fayette (Uniontown, Pa.). Delhi will play sixth-seed Holy Family in the first round on Thursday, Mar. 12 at 12:00 p.m. This marks the Broncos' first-ever USCAA National Tournament appearance, and first national tournament appearance since 2011-12.

Fragale earned his second straight All-ACAA First Team selection by picking up where he left off, amassing a team-best 4.7 assists per game and 126 total assists, while garnering 10.5 ppg., three 20-point games, and one 30-point game. One of his biggest highlights of the season came in Delhi's regular-season finale at Pine Manor, capping off a late Broncos' comeback rally with the go-ahead basket with 2.3 seconds remaining for an 83-82 win. Delhi erased an eight-point deficit with six-and-a-half minutes remaining, with Fragale's efforts earning him USCAA Player of the Week honors. Another of Fragale's highlights included scoring a career-high 34 points early in the season as the Broncos claimed a 112-105 overtime win at Penn College Tech. on Nov. 17. He combined for 24 points, 13 assists, and 2-for-2 from long range at the ACAA Tournament.

Therneus ranked second on the team with 10.8 ppg. and third with 5.8 rpg. He posted four double-doubles and three 20-point games, including a career-high 21 points in two games. The Spring Valley, NY native scored 12 points in both ACAA Tournament contests, featuring a 6-for-7 shooting performance from the field in the semifinals win over Valley Forge. He combined for ten rebounds between the games.

Dean leads the team with 8.6 rpg. and fifth with 8.8 ppg, while totaling nine double-doubles on the season. He had a season-best 23 points at Northern Vermont Johnson on Jan. 6, adding ten rebounds, while amassing a season-high 17 rebounds versus Clarks Summit on Jan. 22 as he notched 11 points. Dean totaled 15 points and 14 boards at the ACAA Tournament.

Butler averages 8.3 ppg. and 3.6 rpg., posting 11 games in double figures. He had a season-high 18 points in Delhi's first victory over Pine Manor on Jan. 14 by an 87-58 score. Butler combined for 22 points and seven rebounds at the ACAA Tournament, including 16 points with four boards versus Valley Forge where he made 3-of-4 threes and 6-of-9 from the field.
