DELHI, N.Y. (December 6, 2019) – A late nine-point Broncos lead evaporated as Sage gathered 17 of the 23 remaining points in the last five minutes as the SUNY Delhi men's basketball team took a 74-72 home defeat. Delhi's first home defeat of the season and first in 14 home contests dating back to last season puts the men at 6-3 on the season.

With the Gators ahead at halftime, 41-39, the Broncos played a spirited first 15 minutes of the second half, highlighted by Glenn Butler's first career dunk and a Norman Wilson 3-pointer that led to a 66-57 Delhi lead with 5:04 remaining. The Gators reacted with a 17-3 run, powered by some steady play in the paint, which led to several offensive rebounds, layups, jumpers, and free throws as Sage finished the night with a 44-14 lead in points in the paint. With Sage ahead, 72-69, Delhi's Darius Hines attempted a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left that missed the mark in the Broncos' last major attempt to tie things up. A pair of game-clinching Darius Denmark free throws and a buzzer-beating three by Justin Daoud accounted for the remaining points.

The Broncos finished just ahead, 48-46, in rebounds, but Sage's 18-15 lead in offensive boards led to an 18-9 advantage in second-chance points. The Gators also posted Delhi made 38.5 percent (25-for-65) and 13-of-30 threes to the Gators' 39.7 percent (27-for-68) and 4-of-18, respectively. The Broncos found themselves in foul trouble nearing game's end, only for the Gators to make 16-of-32 attempts from the charity stripe; Delhi made 9-of-14.

Daoud had a double-double with a team-best 19 points and 14 rebounds, pulling down six offensive boards and making 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Wilson hit 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from long range for 15 points, gathering five rebounds and three assists. Butler garnered eight points, going a perfect 2-for-2 on threes, while Darius Hines produced seven points and six rebounds. Mavenson Therneus finished with seven points and four rebounds, while William Knight totaled six points, making a pair of 3-pointers.

As the fourth of a five-game home stand, Friday night's defeat snapped a 13-game home win streak for the Broncos dating back to Nov. 18, 2018. Head coach Zack Thomsen's team closes out their home stretch on Saturday with an afternoon home matinee versus Houghton at 3:00 p.m. in their last contest prior to winter break.
