Men's Roundball Grounds Bard Raptors to Continue Perfect Home Stand

DELHI, N.Y. (December 3, 2019) – Another home game, another home win for the SUNY Delhi men's basketball team as they defeated Bard, 81-62, on Tuesday night. The Broncos remained perfect  three games into a five-game home stand to improve to 6-2 on the season, as well as pushing their home win streak to 13 games.

Just hours after earning the ACAA Player of the Week award, junior Darius Hines tallied another game-best scoring performance with 21 points off the bench, while collecting three rebounds. Senior Justin Daoud was right behind him in a double-double effort, garnering 18 points and ten boards with three assists, while senior forward Payton Dean had 11 points with seven rebounds.

Delhi opened the game with a 12-2 run in a slow early going through the first seven minutes, but then got right to work as Daoud picked up nine first-half points and rebounds and Hines eight first-half markers to help the Broncos to a 38-20 halftime lead. Things picked up for both sides in the latter session, but Delhi remained steady to preserve the win, extending their lead to as much as 21 points.

The Broncos led, 51-44, in rebounds, including 11 offensive boards that resulted in a 20-7 lead in second chance points. Delhi's depth was on full display, with Hines' electric showing off the pine headlining an astounding 40-0 Broncos' lead in bench points. The green and gold shot 41.7 percent from the field (30-for-72), as Bard managed 35.7 percent (25-for-70). Each side made seven 3-pointers, with Delhi shooting 14-20 from the free throw line to the Raptors' 5-of-11.

Jordan Fragale, William Knight, and Norman Wilson each delivered six points. Jared Beach and Glenn Butler totaled four points, with Beach pulling down five boards and Butler four rebounds. Bababukunmi Babalola made a triple on his only attempt of the night for three points, while Mavenson Therneus logged two points, five boards, and two steals.

Knight and Daoud are closing in on the 1,000 career point milestone, as Knight is now up to 943 points and Daoud 935 points.

Head coach Zack Thomsen's men retake the floor on Friday with a home meeting versus Sage at 7:00 p.m., followed by welcoming Houghton on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Broncos are then off for three weeks as part of winter break before heading to the Utica College Classic on Sunday, Dec. 29 and Monday, Dec. 30. They play Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on day one, followed by the host Pioneers day two.
