SUNY Delhi Falls in Fourth Quarter Gas-out

SUNY Delhi came out firing Saturday afternoon against visiting Villa Maria, a team ranked in the top 10 nationally. The Broncos jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game. With two minutes remaining in the first, the Broncos took their largest lead of the game with a dominating 15 point lead. SUNY Delhi's Brittany Toliver sunk three three's and scored 11 of her game high 23 points. The Broncos would finish the period on top 25-12. However, SUNY Delhi struggled to get on the scoreboard during the second period and was outscored by Villa Maria 18-10. At halftime the Broncos would maintain their lead by only five, 35 to 30. The Vikings came out strong in the third and took the lead 36-35 to start the period. However, SUNY Delhi fought back and regained the lead at the completion of the period, 50-45. Unfortunately, the Broncos shut down defensively in the fourth and allowed the Vikings to score an impressive 31 points in a single quarter to finish out the game. The Broncos were only able to find 13 points of their own and finished with a heartbreaking loss, 76-63. In a true back and forth battle, the game was tied four times and had seven lead changes throughout. The Broncos dominated the boards, outrebounding Villa Maria 56 to 40. Katie Herba and Sam St. Denis lead the way on the boards for the Broncos, pulling in 14 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
