Broncos Fights Back Twice; Sweeps Roos in DH

April 26, 2024 --- Canton, NY

The Broncos were on the road again for a NAC doubleheader in Canton, NY. SUNY Delhi was able to come from behind in both games to seal the victories.

GAME 1: DELHI (8) vs. CANTON (2):

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first four innings would be relatively quiet for both teams. Kayla Beers would collect her first hit of the afternoon in the top of the first inning. Delhi and Canton would collect a few hits over the next three innings but neither would be able to beak the scoreless game.

Canton would be the first on the board with a 2-run bottom of the fifth inning. The lead would be short-lived. The visiting Broncos immediately answered with a 5-run inning of their own. It was Beers again that started things off for Delhi with a single and stolen base. The bases would be loaded and Beers would score on a Carolina Watson single. Four more runs would cross the plate before the home team could get out of the inning.

The Canton Roos would look to respond but would leave two runners on base. Delhi took their 5-2 lead into the top of the 7th and was able to extend in further. Angelina Dickel would double in three runs to push the lead to the final score; 8-2. Danielle Seymour, Delhi's pitcher, would get Canton out in order to conclude the game.

GAME 2: DELHI (12) vs. CANTON (9):

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was a game to remember for the Broncos in Game 2. They wasted no time to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Sidney Cooper would single to start the game and Beers picked up where she left off with another single and would score two batters later on a Watson groundout.

Canton would not be detered and answered with two runs to take a 2-1 lead after two innings.

The teams would combine for 11 runs in the third inning. First, Delhi would retake the lead with five runs; seven straight Broncos would reach base. Again, Canton answered. The home squad would push six runs in and regain the lead; 8-6.

The teams would trade runs the next two innings; Canton in the fourth and Delhi in the fifth. The Roos held a 9-7 lead to the 7th inning.

A familiar name, Beers, would start the rally for Delhi with a double. A wild pitch would bring Beers home. The bases would be loaded with Watson reaching on an error, Seymour walking, and Cayla Moroni singling. A flyout woudl put the team from Delhi down to their final out. They wouldn't be finished just yet. Allen would single up the middle, plating two runs and complete the comeback for the Broncos. Shortstop Riley Martin would add two more runs for good measure with a double to right center.

Seymour, relieving Dickel, would close the game out with an uneventful last at-bat for the the Roos. Good teams find a way.
