Broncos Host Thoroughbreds; Skidmore Takes Both From Delhi

SUNY Delhi softball welcomed the Skidmore Thoroughbreds into town for an afternoon doubleheader.


GAME 1: DELHI (3) vs. SKIDMORE (16) --- 5 innings:


HOW IT HAPPENED:

The visitors from Saratoga Springs were able to jump out to an early 7-0 lead after their first at-bat. Delhi's Sidney Cooper was able to lead off the home half of the first with a single but would get stranded on second.

Extra-base hits helped Skidmore extend their lead (11-0) in the 2nd inning.

The Broncos continued to trail going into their third at-bat. Kayla Beers started it off for Delhi. Cooper would reach on a hit by pitch. Carolina Watson would single in the Bronco's first run two batters later and would later score herself on a failed pickoff attempt by the catcher.

The big first inning by the Thoroughbreds would be too much for Delhi to claw back from; the game would conclude in the fifth inning.


NOTES:

Angelina Dickel (2-10) took the ball to start for the Broncos and was relieved by Danielle Seymour. Dickel walked twice as a batter.

Five Delhi batters collected hits.

Watson had the lone RBI.

 

GAME 2: DELHI (0) vs. SKIDMORE (12) --- 5 innings:


HOW IT HAPPENED:

Skidmore again got on the board in the first. The Broncos were able to limit the damage done to 1-0. Cayla Moroni would draw a walk and get to second on a Kayleigh Allen sacrifice but Delhi wouldn't be able to notch the run they needed to tie the game at 1-1.

The visitors again extended the lead with 3 runs in both the second and third innings. Delhi would breakup the no-hitter in the 4th inning with a single from Watson.

Skidmore added five runs in the fifth. Delhi wouldn't be able to extend the game in the home half of the fifth frame.


NOTES:

Seymour (2-8) took the ball first. Dickel would come in to relieve before Seymour returned to finish the game.

Watson's single accounted for the lone Delhi hit. Dickel and Moroni would reach on a free pass each.


WHAT'S NEXT:

The Broncos (4-18) are back in action Friday afternoon with a NAC doubleheader against VTSU-Johnson. The games will begin at 3PM and 5PM.
