Broncos Host Wells In Sunshine, Takes Pair

April 9, 2024 --- Delhi, NY


SUNY Delhi softball welcomed Wells College in-town for a sunshine, doubleheader. Delhi would take both games against the Express.


GAME 1: DELHI (14) vs. WELLS (6) --- 6 innings:


HOW IT HAPPENED:

Wells College sent three batters to the plate in the first with the Broncos retiring them in order. Delhi was able to break their scoring drought with a 2-run single by Carolina Watson.

Another quiet top half of the 2nd inning for the Express. Kayla Beers would single and swipe a base to start the home half of the 2nd inning. Sidney Cooper would single Beers home and the Broncos lead 3-0.

The lead wouldn't last as the visitors were able to push 4 runs across the plate to take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the third. The Broncos were able to tie it up at 4-4.

Delhi wouldn't be able to keep the Express from regaining the lead; the visitors taking a 5-4 lead. The Broncos again answered with a 3-run inning to retake a 8-5 lead.

Wells would add a run in the top half of the sixth but it was an offensive explosion in the home half. Delhi batters were able to rally for 6 runs to end the game early.


NOTES:

Angelina Dickel (2-7) picked up the win with Danielle Seymour coming in in relief.

The Broncos pounded out 13 hits. Cooper going 3-3 with a double and two singles. Watson raked 4 singles.

Cooper and Watson each had 3 RBIs. Dickel had 2 RBIs.

 

GAME 2: DELHI (5) vs. WELLS (2):


HOW IT HAPPENED:

Seymour took the ball to start the 2nd game and made quick work of the Express batters with a 1,2,3 first inning. Cooper and Watson continued their strong day at the plate, each doubling in Delhi's first at-bat. The home team would lead 3-0 going into the fourth inning.

Seymour would single and pick up an RBI for the Broncos. They would lead 4-0 before Wells would cut the lead in half with a 2-run, fifth inning. A Cayla Moroni single followed by a Kayleigh Allen double would push the lead to 5-2 and would be enough over the final two at-bats to take game 2.

NOTES:

Seymour (2-6) picked up the win, going all 7 innings for the Broncos.

Seven different Bronco hitters tallied hits, led by Cooper's two doubles. Allen and Watson also doubled. 

Delhi amassed 23 hits over the two games. 


WHAT'S NEXT:

Delhi softball (4-13) will return to North Atlantic Conference action with a pair of doubleheaders with SUNY Cobleskill on April 13 and 14. Games will start at 12PM and 2PM on both days.
