Delhi Hosts Houghton, Drops Pair to Highlanders

March 27, 2024 --- Oneonta, NY (Cooperstown All-Star Village)

SUNY Delhi softball opened their home slate with a doubleheader with Houghton College. Weather moved the games out of Delhi to the Cooperstown All-Star Village.

GAME 1: DELHI (2) vs HOUGHTON (9)

How it Happened:

Houghton started the game off with a 2-run top of the first inning; having four straight batters reach base. Delhi would answer with a Emmalee Keyser single but would be stranded at second, leaving the Houghton lead at 2-0.

The Broncos would retire the Highlanders in order to start the second inning. Jaden Taylor would double in the home half of the 2nd and score on Cayla Moroni's fielder's choice.

Houghton would lead 4-1 after three innings and extended their lead to 7-1 in the fourth. Delhi would cut into the lead with an RBI groundout by Moroni.

The Highlander's batters made it 9-2 going into the sixth inning. Sidney Cooper would single in the home half of the sixth but Delhi couldn't close the deficit in the final two frames.

Game Notes:

Danielle Seymour (1-4) took the ball to start the game for the Broncos. Angelina Dickel would finish the game in relief.

Keyser collected two hits for the Broncos along with Taylor's double.

Houghton collected 11 total hits, 4 going for extra bases.

GAME 2: DELHI (1) vs HOUGHTON (9)

How it Happened:

The Broncos and Highlanders would trade single runs back and forth in four of the first five innings of game 2. Houghton struck first with runs in the top half of the first and third innings. Delhi would get on the board and cut the lead to 2-1 in the home portion of the third inning.

Sidney Cooper's lined shot to the right field corner allowed her to touch all the bases. This is Delhi's second inside the park home run of the season.

That would be as close as the Broncos would get as the visitors would use two, three-run innings to push the game out of reach; 9-1.

Game Notes:

Dickel (1-4) would take the circle for 5.2 inning, being relieved by Seymour in the sixth. Kayleigh Allen, in her first pitching appearance, would toss the seventh frame for Delhi.

Cooper added a single to go with her home run.

Kayla Beers and Seymour collected the other Bronco hits.
