Broncos Face Two From the Northeast, Conclude Trip in SC

March 18, 2024 --- North Myrtle Beach, SC

Delhi Bronco softball was back in action with their final games againt SUNY Poly and Keene St (NH) in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.

GAME 1: DELHI (0) vs. SUNY POLY (9)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Poly Wildcats would load the bases with one out but the starter, Danielle Seymour, would get the next two batters to flyout to left field; stranding all three runners on base.

First inning would end scoreless with the Broncos putting one baserunner on but managing nothing further.

After playing near-perfect defense through the first three days, fielding errors proved costly for Delhi in the top of the third inning. SUNY Poly put the ball in play consistently and worked Seymour for walks; resulting in a 7-run at-bat.

Delhi would retire Poly in order to begin the 4th frame. Sidney Cooper would break up the Poly no-hitter with a single to shallow, right centerfield gap.

A two-out single would send two runs across the plate for the Wildcats and give them a 9-0 lead. The Broncos wouldn't be able to extend the game with their home at-bat.

NOTES:

Seymour pitches the complete, 5-inning game.

Cooper's single, a Carolina Watson walk and Kayleigh Allen reaching on an error were the Bronco's that reached base safely.

The Broncos and Wildcats will meet for three games later this month to open Delhi's North Atlantic Conference play.

GAME TWO: DELHI (0) vs. KEENE ST. (15)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Keene St would hit through their lineup in the first inning, using 5 hit to push four runs in and take an early 4-0 lead. The Owl pitcher would return the Broncos in order.

The Owl's would load the bases in the 3rd inning but would only be able to extend their lead by a run; 5-0.

A two-run fourth and a long fifth inning opened up a double-digit lead for Keene St.. Margaret Cremins would double in the bottom of the fifth but Delhi would be unable to get a run home.

NOTES:

Cremins collected her first career hits with her third inning single and double in the fifth.

Angelina Dickel (1-3) started the game going 4 innings before Seymour finished the final frame.

Delhi batters had their lowest total of strikes on the season (1).
