A rare tripleheader was on the docket for SUNY Delhi softball. The Broncos faced off today with games against Castleton (VT) , Minnesota-Morris and Mount Saint Vincent (NY);
GAME 1: DELHI (0) VS CASTLETON (8)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Delhi softball went scoreless in their first at-bat for the first time during their spring training trip. Castleton would get their first two batters on base with a triple and hit by pitch but could only muster up a 1-0 lead through one inning.
The Broncos would go scoreless through three innings while the Spartans used an RBI groundout, patience at the plate and smart base running to move the lead to 4-0.
Delhi would load the bases in the away half of the fourth with singles by Hannah Caughey and Sidney Cooper with Angelina Dickel reaching on a fielder's choice but were unable to cut into the lead.
Castleton would take a 6-0 lead in the 4th and carry it through into the bottom of the 6th before pushing two runs across to finish the game, 8-0.
NOTES:
Kayla Beers had two singles.
Angelina Dickel (0-2) threw 6.2 innings.
GAME 2: DELHI (1) vs. MINNESOTA-MORRIS (10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars of Minnesota-Morris would triple in the first but the runner would be stranded. The Broncos would put a runner on second and Beers would collect an RBI off a single.
Cougars would answer with a 2-RBI single in the top of the 2nd and the Broncos would be retired in order in the bottom half. Minnesota-Morris leads 2-1.
The lead would be extended to 8-1 in the fourth inning and to the final score 10-1 in the sixth.
NOTES:
Delhi has scored in the first inning in four of their five games so far this season.
Emmalee Keyser joined Beers with a single.
Danielle Seymour (1-2) got the start and Dickel finished the game in the circle for Delhi
GAME 3: DELHI (5) vs. MOUNT SAINT VINCENT (2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
A quiet top half of the first inning led into an eventful bottom half for the Broncos. They would again take a 1-0 but some aggressive baserunning proved costly and the lead wouldn't be extended further.
A Kayleigh Allen walk followed by a Jaden Taylor single made it 2-0 Delhi after two innings.
Game would go scoreless through the next three innings, with Delhi stranding two runners in scoring position in the fifth.
Mount Saint Vincent would fight back to tie the game at 2-2 in the visitors portion of the sixth. The Broncos would load the bases in the home half and use small ball to take a 3-run lead into the final frame and would prove to be enough.
NOTES:
Dickel, along with 3 hits, would relieve Seymour and pick up her first collegiate win.
Beers and Allen tallied two hits apiece. Allen scored two runs. Carolina Watson walked twice.
WHAT'S NEXT:
Delhi softball gets a much deserved day off before taking the field on Monday 3/18 in another doubleheader. Game one will be against a familiar foe SUNY Poly (10AM) to be followed at 12PM against Keene St (NH).
