Broncos In Doubleheader Action: Drops to Lycoming, Beats Franciscan

March 15, 2024 --- North Myrtle Beach, SC

SUNY Delhi Softball was back in action, facing off with Lycoming College Warriors in game one and Franciscan University Barons in game two of a doubleheader.

 

GAME 1: DELHI (3) vs. LYCOMING (9)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Delhi would take an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the 1st. Kayla Beers would draw a 6-pitch walk and move to 2nd on a groundout. Beers would score from 2nd on a failed pickoff attempt by the catcher.

Lycoming hitters were quiet in their first at-bat but would use two triples to push three runs across the plate to take a 3-1 lead after two completed frames.

The Warriors would gather three more runs in their third trip to the plate; extending their lead: 6-1.

The Broncos would fight back in the top of the 4th. Emmalee Keyser singled in two runs and a scoreless bottom half made it 6-3 going into the fifth.

Bronco hitters would load the bases in the top of the 5th with three walks but smart Warrior defense kept their lead at 6-3.

Delhi wouldn't get any closer as Lycoming pushed to a 9-3 lead and that would be the final for game 1.

 

NOTES:

The Broncos worked the Warriors' pitchers for 6 walks.

Angelina Dickel, Danielle Seymour, and Sidney Cooper would collect singles, along with Keyser's 4th inning, two RBI single.

Lycoming tallied 14 hits with Mallory Rodarmel going 4 for 4.

Dickel (0-1) got the start for the Broncos, throwing the first three innings before being relieved by Seymour. 

 

GAME 2: DELHI (8) vs. FRANCSICAN (0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Delhi would score in the first inning for the third straight game; jumping out 3-0. Dickel forced a leadoff walk and would score from first on a throwing error forced by a Beers' batted ball. Beers would end up at third base and score on another throwing error two batters later. A sac fly by Seymour made it three for Delhi.

The Barons were kept scoreless through the 5-inning game with the Broncos tacking on 5 more runs in their second, third, and fourth innings.

 

NOTES:

Seven Delhi batters collected 8 hits with 4 going for extra bases (Double: Jaden Taylor, Kayleigh Allen. Triple: SIdney Cooper.)

Hannah Caughey would round the bases with an inside-the-park home run in the third.

Seymour got her second start of the season, throwing five innings and striking out six to pick up the win. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT:

SUNY Delhi will play a rare tripleheader tomorrow March 16 with games against Castleton, Minnesota-Morris and Mount Saint Vincent (NY). Games start at 9AM, 11AM and 2PM, respectively.
