SUNY Delhi Accepted as Full-Time SUNYAC Member Beginning in 2026–27 Season

Delhi, NY -  SUNY Delhi is proud to announce its official acceptance as a full-time member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), beginning with the 2026–27 academic year. SUNY Delhi will join fellow SUNY institutions Alfred State and SUNY Cobleskill in transitioning to the SUNYAC, as announced by the SUNYAC league office on June 5th.

"Joining the SUNYAC for all our athletic offerings represents a proud milestone for SUNY Delhi,” SUNY Delhi President Dr. Mary Bonderoff said. “This transition not only elevates our athletic programs but also reinforces our dedication to student success both on the field and in the classroom. We look forward to competing with our SUNY peers and continuing to build a legacy of excellence and school pride."

This move builds upon SUNY Delhi’s growing presence in the SUNYAC, as the Broncos began competing as associate members in men’s and women’s track & field during the 2024–25 season. Starting this fall, SUNY Delhi’s men’s and women’s cross country programs will also join the SUNYAC as associate members for the 2025 season, further integrating the institution into the conference’s competitive landscape ahead of full membership. Additionally, SUNY Delhi’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs will begin competing in the SUNYAC as of the 2025–26 season. The programs most recently participated in the Little East Conference (LEC) during the 2024–25 campaign.

"I would like to thank the SUNYAC presidents and Commissioner DiCamillo for this opportunity. SUNY Delhi is honored to be accepted into SUNYAC,” Director of Athletics Robb Munro said. “This marks an exciting new chapter for our athletic department and reflects the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff. More importantly, it gives us a forever home for our programs. The SUNYAC has already been terrific for our track and field programs; now we look forward to competing at a high level and building lasting relationships within the SUNYAC for all our other programs."

The invitation comes as the latest step in a remarkable journey of transformation for SUNY Delhi Athletics. Once a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Delhi made its initial move toward NCAA affiliation by being approved for exploratory membership during the 2017–18 academic year. The following year, the Broncos were invited to begin the NCAA Division III three-year provisional membership process—an endeavor that concluded successfully with SUNY Delhi earning full NCAA Division III membership in 2021–22.

Prior to full NCAA status, SUNY Delhi competed in the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) during the 2016–17 and 2017–18 seasons. In spring 2018, the Broncos joined the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) as an associate member, competing in six sports: men’s and women’s track and field 2018, men’s golf, men’s lacrosse, and men’s tennis 2018–19, as well as women’s tennis 2019. SUNY Delhi became a full member of the NAC in the 2020–21 academic year, sponsoring 12 conference sports and building a strong, competitive presence that has flourished ever since.

SUNY Delhi is proud of the legacy we've built within the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), where our student-athletes have excelled both on and off the field. Since joining the NAC, the Broncos have captured an impressive 14 conference championships, including titles in women’s track and field (2019); men’s track and field (2019, 2022, 2024); men’s cross country (2019, 2022); women’s cross country (2019, 2021, 2024); men’s golf (2019, 2021, 2022); women’s soccer (2022); and men’s basketball (2023). These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication of our coaches, staff, and student-athletes. As we look ahead to the future, SUNY Delhi will continue to compete in the NAC for the upcoming 2025–26 season before officially transitioning out of the conference in 2026–27.
