Anibal Nieves '86

Anibal Nieves became a formidable presence during the unstoppable mid-1980's run of SUNY Delhi's Wrestling Team. He was crowned the 1986 NJCAA National Champion at 134 lbs., then went on to wrestle at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. As a Warrior, Nieves held a 62-13-5 record over two seasons. He later competed internationally for Puerto Rico at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, finishing tenth in the 62 kg. category at Barcelona in 1992. A nine-time National Champion in Puerto Rico, he also took home silver medals at the 1991 and 1995 Pan American Games. Nieves translated his success over to the collegiate coaching ranks, serving as Head Wrestling Coach at American International College, Western New England University, Springfield Tech, and currently his alma mater at East Stroudsburg University. He coached the Haiti Wrestling Team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
