McCubbin’s solid defense as goalkeeper helped guide the Broncos to the 1979 NJCAA Field Hockey Championship and earn her the distinction of becoming SUNY Delhi’s first female All-American. Her performance marked the second consecutive year she had been named to the National Championship All-Tournament team. McCubbin also earned All-Region honors in 1978 and 1979 and was named SUNY Delhi’s Female Athlete of the Year for 1979-1980. Her achievements at SUNY Delhi led to a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was starting goalkeeper for the Tar Heels.
