The second winningest wrestling coach in U.S. history, Millard led the Broncos to a national record of 92 consecutive dual meet wins from 1979-83. During his 14-year career at Delhi, Millard's teams compiled a 251-37 mark, won seven Region III titles and produced 20 All-Americans. He also served as chair of physical education and athletics at Delhi from 1974-85. A two-time winner of the NJCAA Wrestling Man of the Year Award, he is a member of the NJCAA Wrestling Hall of Fame and the New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

One of America’s all-time victorious wrestling coaches, Francis E. “Frank” Millard ’63 established a junior college wrestling dynasty at SUNY Delhi before becoming the physical education and athletics director at Northfield Mount Hermon, the nation’s largest preparatory boarding school, in Massachusetts.

A native of Watertown, N.Y., Millard was a New York State scholastic sectional wrestling champion for Watertown High School.

At SUNY Cortland, Millard was a four-year starter in wrestling and a two-time State University of New York Athletic Conference runner-up. A junior varsity soccer player, he was the sports editor of the student newspaper, served on the yearbook sports staff and was a Delta Kappa Beta fraternity brother. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education from SUNY Cortland.

Millard began his professional career at Carthage (N.Y.) Central School in 1963. He then taught at The Manlius (N.Y.) Preparatory School, where he coached football and baseball, from 1965-70. After a year at SUNY Potsdam as a sabbatical replacement, Millard joined SUNY Delhi, where he would remain until 1985.

As the wrestling coach, he guided SUNY Delhi to seven Region III championships between 1977-85, including third place nationally in 1983 and 1984 — the second highest national finish ever by an Eastern junior college. He coached 20 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Americans and 48 Academic All-Americans. His teams set a college record of 92 consecutive dual meet victories.

Millard retired following the 2007 season. His final 45-year dual meet coaching record of 718-204-3 gives him the second-highest win total of any wrestling coach at any levei in the United States.

An eight-time NJCAA Region II Coach of the Year, Millard was inducted into the NJCAA Wresting Hall of Fame in 1982, the NJCAA Region III Hall of Fame in 1988, and the New York State Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2000 for his lifetime achievement. While at SUNY Delhi, Millard also coached baseball, cross country and golf. He will be inducted into SUNY Delhi's Athletics Hall of Fame in June of 2007.

In 1985, Millard came to Northfield Mount Hermon Preparatory School in Northfield, Mass., where he is the coordinator of physical education after serving 21 years as the chair for physical education and athletics. In addition to wrestling, he has coached softball and golf there. Millard is a past president of the New England Independent School Wrestling Association and the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association.

Within the community, Millard co-directed the Northeastern Wrestling Camp for 18 years, the Wrestling Coaches Clinic for 12 years and the Football Coaches Clinic for six years. He is a past president of the Tri County Youth Baseball League and founded and coached the Tri County Youth Wrestling Team.
