As a high school senior Kobie was the NYS Class B Runner-up in cross country and ran a 9:26 for 3200 meters indoors. Despite using his freshman year to make huge increases in training volume, Kobie still managed to record several nice personal bests including performance in the 1500 meters, mile, 3000 meters and 5000 meters that were all improvements. He also ran the fourth fastest 8-kilometer cross country race in program history at Geneseo when he posted a time of 25:43.3.
With his second year in front of him the coaches have high hopes. When asked about Kobie coach Robb Munro said "Kobie is one the most coachable young men I have ever worked with. He came in as a successful high school runner and put complete faith in the coaching staff, doing everything that was asked of him, even as we changed a lot of things with him. This year I expect that he will reap the benefits of that positive attitude and willingness to follow a plan. He is more fit than ever." Furthermore, coach added "Kobie is also as good a person and teammate as anyone can ask for. He his a great athlete, but his contributions to the program go far beyond his performance and include a deep quality of character."
