First Full 8k and 5k Races of the Season Result In Many Personal Bests

Men's Results / Women's Results

The SUNY Delhi Cross Country Teams traveled to Saratoga State Park to compete in the Saratoga Invitational hosted by RPI.  Both the men and the women had great performances with many men running their best 8k race times and many women posting their best 5k race times.

The men had their hands full with a large field that included the host team RPI, who is currently ranked 12th in the country for NCAA division III. They rose to the occasion and placed second as a team, behind only RPI.  This is the fourth top two finish in four races this year for the team.  Once again the men were led by sophomore Kobie Lane and senior John Hillenbrand.  Lane finished the 8-kilometer course in a time 25:43.8 to place sixth overall while Hillenbrand came in at 14th at 26:09.7.  Freshman Jon Messler, running the 8k distance for the first time ever, ran a great last mile of the race to move all the way up to 21st place with a time of 26:37.2.  Sophomores Andrew Davis and Nicholas Arnecke rounded out the bronco scoring with repsective times of 26:43.3 and 27:02.6 to place 25th and 37th in the field of 172 runners.  Freshman Connor Oakman and Lucas Reilly also had great performances placing 46th and 48th overall, a performance that would have made them scoring runners on the fifth place team.

For the women, the field was their largest and fastest of the season.  The performances turned in by them were nothing short of amazing, with most of them dropping two to three minutes off their previous best 5-kilometer time and some dropping nearly five minutes.  Leading the way for the women once again was sophomore Isamarie Ramos.  Ramos, who had never been under 23 minutes in a 5k race before has been having a great seasons so far in her first year of cross country, crossed the line in a time of 20:11.5 to place 66th in the 158 runner field.  Following Ramos was sophomore Elise McIntyre who posted a huge personal best of her own to finish with a time of 21:48.9, her first time under 24 minutes.  Sophomore Rainey Cerqua ran through a cough to finish third for the team in a time of 22:58.3.  The three women that placed 4-6 for the Broncos are all first time cross country runners as well.  Freshman Ashley Magnifico, Morgan Hulburt, and Melissa Mangold ran respective times of 23:05.9, 23:40.5 and 23:50.7.  Rounding out the top seven for Delhi was sophomore Xochilt Cortez who ran a time of 24:59.2, a huge improvement over her best time last year of 28:50.

Next up for the team is the Bronco Weekday Classic at the College Golf Course on Wednesday.
