Courtney Hoyt Named Interim Women's Basketball Head Coach

DELHI, N.Y. (August 1, 2018) – SUNY Delhi Director of Athletics Bob Backus has announced the appointment of Courtney Hoyt as the Broncos' Women's Basketball Interim Head Coach for the 2018-19 season. Hoyt, a 2007 graduate of SUNY Delhi, has served as the team's assistant coach the last two seasons under previous head coach Vicki Andruszkiewicz, who recently announced her departure to take a similar role at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, N.Y.

"Coach Hoyt has demonstrated her dedication to SUNY Delhi Athletics over the past two seasons as the Women's Assistant Basketball Coach," related Backus. "I'm confident that she will do a fine job in guiding the women's basketball program in the upcoming 2018-19 season."

Hoyt played on the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team during the 2006 and 2007 seasons, helping the Broncos to the 2006 NJCAA Region 3 Finals. Her performance that season earned her the region's outstanding offensive player award. She rejoined the Broncos women's soccer squad as an assistant coach in 2012, followed by serving as a volunteer assistant for the women's basketball team in 2012-13. Coach Hoyt will also serve as the Broncos' Head Women's Tennis Coach this season. 

Hoyt earned her Associate's from Delhi in General Studies in 2007. She went on to obtain her Bachelor's from SUNY Oneonta in 2010, majoring in Biology with a minor in Art, and acquired her Master's in Coaching and Athletics Administration from Concordia University of Irvine in 2016.

The Downsville, N.Y. native attended Downsville Central School, where she was a four-sport state contender in soccer, basketball, cross country and track and field. On the hardwood, Hoyt helped the Eagles to the state finals her junior year and was recognized to the Class D All-Tournament Team. Their postseason run still stands as the furthest in DCS basketball history on both the boys' and girls' side. As a senior, Hoyt led the soccer team to an undefeated season, culminating in a 2005 Class D state championship, where she was named Tournament MVP.

Upon graduation from SUNY Oneonta, Hoyt returned to Downsville to coach the high school girls' basketball team, where she went from assistant junior varsity/varsity coach, head junior varsity coach, then head varsity coach in three years. In 2013-14, she was the head girls' basketball coach at Andes Central School before becoming the head modified basketball coach from 2015 to 2017 and head tennis coach in 2017. In between, she was the assistant girls' soccer coach at Otter Valley High School in 2015. A substitute teacher at Andes since 2016, Hoyt was elevated to Athletic Director in 2017.
