HOUGHTON, N.Y. (December 8, 2018) – A 31-point Houghton first quarter and a 37-point halftime deficit was how the SUNY Delhi women's basketball team began Saturday's matchup with the Highlanders. Along with the wide margin, the Broncos were also unable to keep up with their hosts' ability to shoot from the floor in an 89-44 defeat that sent Delhi to a 6-5 record.

Where Houghton finished 53.5 percent from the floor (38-for-71) and 7-of-16 from 3-point range, the Broncos connected on just 31.5 percent (17-for-54) and 0-for-9 from behind the arc. This included a first quarter where the Highlanders made 14-of-17 from the floor, including a 3-for-4 on threes, that saw the home team up, 31-11, after one period. Though the Broncos defense slowed down their opponents' scoring in the second quarter, four points by Kiera Holland was all Delhi's offense could produce as they trailed, 52-15, at halftime. By day's end, Houghton led by as much as 52 points and had nine bench players score for a 41-0 lead in bench points.

Samiaya Salley ranked second for the game with 17 points, while Sam Acuna scored 12 points. Diana Echols grabbed down a game-best 11 rebounds, along with three points. Holland and Camryn McDonald each totaled six points, with Holland also gathering five rebounds.

Head coach Courtney Hoyt's team will take a week off before returning for one more game prior to winter break at Green Mountain on Monday, Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
